A Song for the Siren

Posted on November 3rd, 2011 by Kenny

I have a new prose poem/flash story, Siren’s Song, up at Pipe Dream today. Very pleased that it found a home. My writing does tend to stray into the poetic from time to time, although I never consciously set out to write poetry – I’m not a poet, I don’t understand poetry that much, and I don’t particularly like much poetry that I read. I don’t really enjoy categorising things very much, hence my description of this as “prose poetry/flash fiction” – I don’t know what it is, I’m not too bothered. It is what it is, I just want people to enjoy it.

This is also the third piece of writing of mine that shares its title with a song by The Cure. In this case, it was by complete accident. Although I can’t deny that the track ‘Sirensong’ from their last album 4:13 Dream was probably one of the better tracks on that album. A better song to look to for an atmospheric setting to this piece, is the brilliant cover of Tim Buckley’s ‘Song to the Siren’ by This Mortal Coil. Beautiful.
